The Poldark Trail
Many of the most iconic locations are but a short drive from Hayle.
Can’t wait to see the next series….. check out some of the most beautiful parts of West Cornwall where many of the scenes were filmed. In fact, the locations manager for the Poldark series stayed with us the year before filming started, making sure each scene had just the right location. Many of the most iconic locations are but a short drive from Hayle.
Charlestown, the unspoilt Grade II Listed harbour with a wonderful collection of historic ships is the home port of the Phoenix, an ancient square rigger, which has featured in numerous films including Poldark. Charlestown itself can be seen in the opening title sequence of Poldark and has been portrayed as Truro and Falmouth. Still on the south coast are Dolar Cove and Church Cove approximately 15 miles. These two coves were the site of the Poldark shipwreck scene on Hendrawna Beach.
The north coast boasts locations such as Holywell Beach, where many Poldark beach scenes have been filmed including those with Dwight Enys and Caroline Penvenen and near St Agnes Head, about 17 miles, you can find the setting for Nampara, Ross Poldark’s family home.
The abandoned mining buildings at Botallack, St. Just about a half hour’s drive from hayle provide the perfect stand ins for the Poldark family mines of Wheal Leisure and Grambler.
Enjoy a walk along this beautiful stretch of coast path with soaring falcons overhead, seals in the waves and on a clear day views to the Isles of Scilly soaking in this evocative cornish atmosphere.
