Autumn in Cornwall
Discover the best things to do in Cornwall in autumn, from quiet beaches and dog-friendly walks to Tehidy Woods, pumpkin picking and Halloween adventures. Stay in Riviere Towans with Toms Holidays.
There’s something rather special about Cornwall in Autumn.
As the summer crowds begin to disappear, the pace slows down and the landscape takes on a whole new feel. The beaches are quieter, the countryside comes alive with autumn colour and there’s a little more time to enjoy Cornwall at your own pace.
If you’re considering an Autumn holiday in Cornwall, Riviere Towans makes a wonderful base. From beautiful beaches and coastal walks to woodland adventures, pumpkin picking and a little Halloween magic, there’s still plenty to see and do around West Cornwall.
And with a warm autumn promised, there’s no need to put your Cornwall adventures on hold just because summer is over!
Enjoy quieter beaches around Hayle
One of the best things about visiting Cornwall in autumn is having a little more space to yourself.
The beaches around Hayle, Gwithian and Godrevy are wonderful at this time of year. The summer crowds have thinned, the waves are still rolling in, the surf is amazing and you may find yourself with a whole stretch of sand to enjoy.
It’s the perfect time for a long coastal walk, a spot of beach-combing, rock-pooling, watching the surfers or simply sitting on the sand and enjoying the sea air.

🐾 And for dog owners, autumn brings another welcome change. Seasonal dog restrictions on many Cornish beaches are lifted from October, meaning your four-legged friends can enjoy those sandy walks with you once again. We have lots of pooch friendly properties here at Toms Holidays.
Just remember that some areas, including parts of the Hayle Estuary, have year-round restrictions to protect wildlife, so always check the local signs before heading out.
For dog-friendly holidays in Cornwall, autumn is hard to beat.

Discover Tehidy Woods in autumn
Just a short drive from Hayle, Tehidy Woods is one of our favourite places for an autumn walk.
With miles of paths winding through ancient woodland, lakes and open spaces, it’s a lovely place to get out and enjoy the changing season. Look out for crunchy golden leaves, conkers, woodland wildlife – including some very inquisitive squirrels – on those crisp autumn mornings that make you want to keep walking.
It’s also a great option when you’re looking for things to do in Cornwall when the weather is a little cooler.
And this October, there’s an extra reason to visit…
Experience Rogue Otherworld’s Dead of Night Dance
Our suggestion, for something a little different – Rogue Otherworld’s Dead of Night Dance returns to Tehidy Woods this autumn.
Running from 23 October to 1 November 2026, this atmospheric Halloween experience combines immersive theatre, storytelling, music, dance and Cornish folklore, taking visitors through the woodland before arriving at a hidden theatre beneath the trees.
It’s a wonderfully atmospheric way to experience the darker side of Cornwall and could be a memorable addition to a Cornwall October half-term break, great fun for the whole family!!
Being so close to Hayle, Tehidy Woods is also an easy addition to a day exploring the local area.

Pick your own pumpkin 🎃
Autumn wouldn’t be complete without a pumpkin or two!
For a quintessential seasonal day out, head to Trevaskis Farm in Connor Downs, just outside Hayle, where you can enjoy some of the area’s autumn farm activities and pick your own pumpkin when the season is underway. Plus, their mouth-watering cake selection is a real treat!
It’s a lovely family-friendly activity and a chance to get out into the Cornish countryside — wellies are encouraged!
Take your pumpkin home to your Toms Holidays chalet and you could even have a little pumpkin-carving competition before settling down for the evening.
Autumn walks, cosy pubs and Cornish adventures
Of course, you don’t need to fill every day with activities.
Sometimes the best autumn holidays in Cornwall are about slowing down.
Take a walk along the South West Coast Path, explore Hayle, wander through the woods or head towards Godrevy and Gwithian for some fresh sea air.
You could spend the afternoon exploring St Ives, discover one of West Cornwall’s gardens, find a cosy pub for lunch or simply sit somewhere with a coffee and watch the world go by.
And if the weather turns a little wild? Even better.
There’s something rather satisfying about returning to your chalet after a blustery autumn walk, kicking off your muddy boots, making a hot drink and settling in for the evening.
