Handpicked Spring Tips:

Enjoying Springtime Amongst the Towans

Spring on the Towans has a gentle rhythm of its own. The days lengthen, the tide reveals wide stretches of sand, and suddenly the coastline feels almost entirely yours before the summer crowds arrive. It’s our favourite time of year, when everything seems to wake up slowly and quietly, and the familiar routines of the coast begin to return, the first seabirds back on the dunes, the smell of salt on the breeze, and the quiet sound of waves breaking along the shore.

This month, we’d like to share a few of our favourite spring tips to enjoy during your stay, whether it’s a mid-week short break, a longer seven-night escape, or even just a day wandering along the coast.

Morning Beach Strolls

One of our favourite ways to start the day is with a walk at Gwithian, especially at low tide. The beach stretches out for miles, perfect for wandering, spotting seals bobbing offshore, or letting the dogs run freely. Early mornings often feel yours entirely, giving you a rare moment of calm where the only sounds are the waves and the wind. Even a short stroll here can be surprisingly refreshing and sets the tone for the rest of the day. And if you happen to time it with the sunrise, the soft morning light across the sand and sea is something you won’t forget.

Top Tip: For an extra treat, stop by Kaybn Café, perched on the pebble bank of the beach, for a fresh barista coffee or a mega hot chocolate topped with marshmallows, cream, and a tower of delicious extras. Perfect for a little indulgence before or after your walk.

Clifftop Picnics

Spring also reveals the quieter paths through the dunes, those little routes that are easy to miss in summer. They lead to hidden stretches of sand and clifftop spots that feel entirely your own. A simple picnic up here, a blanket, a flask of something warm, and maybe a small treat, becomes a little celebration of the season. It’s the perfect way to pause, watch the light shifting over the water, and enjoy the fresh air while the wind tucks around you, whilst taking shelter in the sun. Sometimes we even bring a book or sketchpad, but often it’s just about sitting and taking in the view.

Top Tip: Hayle Towans and Upton Towans are lovely areas to explore in spring, with plenty of grassy spots, stunning views, and parking nearby. Philps also offers cream teas and pasty hampers to take away — easy to grab and enjoy on the spur of the moment during your walk or picnic.

Ice Cream Smiles and Seal Spotting

Evenings in spring have their own charm. With longer light, a post-dinner stroll can stretch out, letting you discover birds on the dunes, seals offshore, or early wildflowers along the paths. For the braver ones, a quick paddle in the sea is always a fun way to mark the start of the season. And, of course, no spring evening is complete without the first ice cream of the year, coat on, enjoyed slowly with no queues in sight, sometimes even shared with a four-legged friend enjoying the walk alongside you. These are the small moments that make a stay on the Towans so memorable.

Top Tip: At Godrevy North Car Park, you’ll find an ice cream van on the left-hand side as you head up to the headland. Take the left-hand path to circle around the headland, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the coastline and coves below, keeping an eye out for resting seals. Then it’s just a gentle stroll back down to the car park.

Spring at the Towans isn’t about doing more; it’s about noticing the little changes, slowing down, and enjoying the coast in its quietest, most beautiful moments. Time it right, and it can truly feel like the whole place is yours.

If you’re thinking about a spring escape, Toms Holidays makes it easy to enjoy these quiet moments, with cosy beachside cottages ready to welcome you whenever the season calls. Whether it’s a short mid-week break or a longer getaway, there’s something about the Towans in spring that reminds you why the coast has always been a favourite place to unwind.
